You need to configure the email server info in the system settings. Once that tests correctly then the alerts should work.

I am a very new user and I'm trying to figure out how to send an email notification or text message to my phone. I did check the email and sms text boxes and entered my phone number and my email address. Is there other things that need to be configured?
