When in playback mode, try right clicking on the image and make sure that you do not have "Test run through motion detector" selected.

it doesn't record masks it just shows them when i play clips back in BI
if i export as mp4 the clips are as should be played back on media player

the masks are not recorded they just show up when recorded clips are played back in blue iris
if the clip is exported as mp4 no masking appears on any clip???

Use Direct-to-disc. No overlays or masking will be recorded.

If you want the date/time/camera-name on the recorded video, use the cameras gui to turn them on, and, any other overlay it has that you want.

Why am i getting motion detection / hotspots and masks displaying on playback
when it isn't selected in any camera properties

if i insert a mask on a camera it will show on 'any' playback regardless of when it was recorded

if i export as mp4 and play on say media player
everything is normal so its not on the recorded clips

it seems like the settings of the playback viewer need adjusting
is there anyway this can be done

i have uninstalled and reinstalled the prog but it does not cure it

am am using v4.2
