I am currently running Proxmox with several VM's including Blue Iris and Open AI.
This is on a Dell720 with dual cpu (48 core total) and 128g ram.
I have a nvidia m6000 gpu and have configured Proxmox to pass through the pci to the BI VM (server 2022) and this is successfully running cuda.
If you are thinking of going down this route than i can confirm it 100% works and i personally would not use pure hardware again as the flexibilty of VM's and backing up is what makes it worth while.
Statistics: Posted by itchynuts — Thu Jul 25, 2024 9:42 am

OK, looks like you need to go back to Windows XP to get your safety.

And IE that may actually work with all the underdeveloped firmware still being spit out by the camera vendors these days. I believe you can max it out to IE11 with a 64 bit setup?

Been thinking about XP Pro w/SP3 and VMware Player for that purpose alone since recently seeing a pretty cool YT video about it.

Otherwise, running Intel and Nvidea may be simpler than a pair of Skylakes. Not sure how BI would differentiate between Intels while actually having a specific listing for Nvidea which we know can be simultaneously used separately from an Intel iCore, though we're talking GPU, not CPU there.

Interesting question.
Statistics: Posted by Pogo — Wed Jul 17, 2024 12:39 am

It depends what you are wanting to do with it. Blue Iris can use the integrated gpu of a compatible i7 cpu, but anything else tends to need an Nvidia gpu. Any extra gpu will increase power requirements.

I went for an i7-8700k cpu due to its relatively low power, and only added a GTX1650 when I need to accelerate CPAI. That is also a low power card. Quite important for a PC that will remain powered up 24/7.
Statistics: Posted by TimG — Sat Jul 13, 2024 12:26 pm

I recently added five cameras to my system bringing to a total of twelve. It brought my PC to it's knees - CPU at 100%, fan speed kicked up high making lots of noise, slow responses in serving up feeds to phones etc. I had to disable four of them to get things back to running smooth. Granted I have struggled with triggers and notifications but I think I need more horsepower here.

Cameras are mostly Amcrest 4K (8MP) with a few oddballs in the mix. PC is a dedicated PC that has Intel I5-3570, 3.4Ghz, 4 cores with only 8GB RAM. No add on graphics card.

I am thinking of building a new dedicated PC for my cameras. Remote login to it to maintain. Not worried about screen display. BI site recommends an I7, 8GB ram and nVIDIA graphics (for efficient screen display). So I'm looking for some more specifics on recommendations. I've seen posts talking about Quick Sync hardware acceleration and support for hardware acceleration on NVidia cards with CUDA cores. Don't think you can use both at same time so its one or the other. Some sites say don't bother with Graphics cards. Seems like graphics cards if used properly would be ideal but don't want to spend a fortune on a card if it has minimal return on investment.

My current thought is an late model I7, 32GB RAM, SDD, and disk hard drive to record videos. Trying to figure out the point of diminishing returns on graphics card.

Thanks for any advice/help.
Statistics: Posted by jebirr — Sun Jun 02, 2024 8:12 pm
