MAJOR UPDATE,
I just tried to start Blue Iris the regular way I had been doing for ages, and it is now magically working again !
I did NOTHING to modify any settings, it's just working again !
Well how about that. Just completely stopped BI (service, etc.) and restarted and lo and behold it is recording again and not showing that idiotic "warning".
Not sure what they did but credit where credit is due: It appears fixed for now.
Edit: Nevermind. BI is not properly recording anything, which means it is still hopelessly broken.
