I am setting up a Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-ZE purchased from Empire Tech directly.
I would like to ask a few questions about the settings that you should do in the Dahua GUI and also within Blue Iris.
My first two questions are...
What is the difference between "H.264H" and just "H.264" Encode Mode in the Dahua GUI? In Blue Iris for the camera setting I do not see a "H.264H" only a "H.264"
This sort of makes me assume that the H.264H might be specific to Dahua NVR's. And that I should use H.264 with Blue Iris.

Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-ZE camera settings for Blue Iris...
Dedicated Blue Iris 5 PC : HP ProDesk i5-8500, 8gb RAM, 256gb M.2 SSD(for BI and Windows 10), 8tb drive shucked from WD EasyStore.
Two cameras so far: one IPC-HDW5231R-ZE and one IPC-T5442TM-AS, eventually looking to have about 6 or 7 cameras.

The H isn't Dahua specific but are different H264 Profiles https://www.rgb.com/h264-profiles
Maybe BI detects the profile being sent automatically and decodes appropriately.

I use H265 (without the hardware acceleration) for my use-case so I never dug much into the variations of H264.

I searched extensively over at IPCT, using Google, and there seemed to be not a lot of discussion about H.264H, most centered around H264 and H265. But much of those threads were made during BI4. So I was wondering if With BI5 it might be good to use. HeneryH, do you use BI5?

No, I am on BI4, but Intel hardware acceleration still does NOT work for H265 in BI5.
I personally and in my specific use case prefer the extra compression of H265 over the potential CPU savings of H264.

So I get the feeling that for BI when setting up your Dahau camera that it might be best to use just H.264. I am getting this from IPCT postings searching the site via google for "H.264 and H.264H site:ipcamtalk.com" where there seems that most BI users use H.264. But I'm still not finding any concrete reasons why or a detailed explanation why, other than users stating their feeling based on trail and error.
I do wish that the BI Manual went into more detail about this. The BI manual itself is very vague on details.

It comes down to your CPU capacity. I have plenty of headroom on my CPU so I don't need to worry about that. I prefer to keep MORE video.
Here are your choices:
Here are your choices:
- H264 - Can use Intel hardware acceleration to reduce CPU usage but it doesn't compress as much.
- H265 - Can compress more so that you can keep more video stored, but it takes more CPU (both due to more complex algorithms + it cannot use Intel hardware acceleration).
