How to Capture Video & Screenshots in Windows 10...

Post by MikeBwca »

If you are running Windows 10, it had a built-in capture for Image & Video.
Audio is captured. You can change settings to capture audio from the entire system, or, only from the pgm your capturing from.

It does an excellent job. But, there is no option I can see for capturing the mouse.
If anyone knows how to capture the mouse, or, has a better solution, please let us know.

Press 'WindowsKey' + G

If the 'Game Bar' does not appear...
Go into Windows Settings, Gaming, and 'Enable' the Game Bar. Take note of the shortcut keys - these are also available withing the Game Bar.

Set your Capture settings (Vidio/Audio Quality, Cursor):
Go to: Settings/Gaming/Capture
- At the bottom is a check mark to enable 'Capture mouse cursor in recording'.
- Set the video quality... Standard/High
- Set the Audio quality
...As well as other settings.

To record a Blue Iris session (or any pgm/game)...
1. Open & Select the BI window.
2. Press 'WinKey' + G
3. If the 'Capture bar' does not appear, click the 'Capture' icon on the 'Game Bar'.
4. Click the Circle to start, and the Square to stop.
5. When stopped, and the 'Game Clip Recorded' pop-up appears, click it and Windows Explorer will open with the recorded clip(s). File location is 'Videos/Captures' in your users folder.

To capture a screenshot:
Same as above, but click the 'Camera' icon in the 'Capture Bar'.

Note: If you get a message 'Gaming features aren't available...', just close it. The captures usually work.
Note: To deselect the Game Bar, press 'WinKEY + G' again, or, select outside the pgm.

Quicker ways....
Shortcuts:
When the pgm is selected...
Start/End video capture: WinKey + ALT + R
Take Screenshot: Winkey + ALT + ScreenPrint

I ran into the same limitations with Windows 10's Game Bar. It was one of the reasons that I looked for an alternative screen recorder.

I came across a screen recorder called FlashBack Lite, which is free. It lacks an video editor but allows you to crop video captured, save as MP4, AVI, or WMV, records screens and sounds, it support cursor highlights, does not impose a watermark, has no ads and does not restrict the length of the capture. If this suite your needs, you can download it from https://www.flashbackrecorder.com/express/.
