Torture test!

Post by Thixotropic »

I bought a few of the Foscam R2 cameras just to play with, and now that I'm done with that, it's time to sacrifice one or two of them. :)

I've mounted one outdoors under an eave (see pic), but still very much exposed to the weather. I've done nothing to the camera to harden it besides taping off the SD card slot and putting a blank RJ45 connector in the Ethernet jack. That's mainly just to keep bugs and moisture out, but aside from that I've done nothing to it.

It's mounted upside down and is currently using the wifi and a 5vdc power adapter, but I'm going to convert it over to PoE in a few days (probably). The R2 cameras work great over a wired connection.

It's survived a few ~28 degree (F) nights and a lot of blowing, windy rain. So far so good. We'll see how it does in Jan and Feb, which are probably going to be pretty cold here this year.

I'm thinking about taking one and just putting it out on the deck, open to everything. I'd guess the first good rainstorm would kill it, but ya never know.
