Hi all!
I've been running BI for some years and every once in a while it doesn't delete files when it reaches the Limit sieze of 5000GB that I've setup.
Last time it happened I had to remove about 1TB of clips and it started delete the old ones automatically.
Now, I'd really prefer not to do that again because I will have to check in some days if it will start honoring the 5000GB limit.
Here is my setup:
When it hits the limit, it doesn't record anything anymore (just a 1KB file per camera).
How can I solve this problem?
Thanks!
Limit size not respected

Hi,
Why do you have "Do not monitor free space" ticked ? That doesn't look right

What size is the drive and what else is on it?
Perhaps post a screen shot of your storage situation as displayed on the BI status page.

Re: Limit size not respected
The drive is 5,45TB; there is the BlueIris folder (Alert, db, New, Stored) and another folder (temporary backup of a camera) that is 280GB.
Here is the storage situation:
I've edited the limit size to 49000GB: As you can see, it's already over the limit
The size of New, Stored and Alerts is 5.11TB, I don't know where that 6.83TB is coming from (the drive is 5.45TB!). Leave it alone the 49.8TB!
Thanks!
Now I'm trying to repair the db. Let's see.
Edit: I've repaired the DB, but the result is the same

Re: Limit size not respected
Your limit size is set to 49TB. Drop a zero and refresh everything.
Re: Limit size not respected
I don't think 0 will record anything to delete.
Depending on what else may be on the drive, try a limit of 4.5 to account for any other files and to compensate for how Windows actually calculates space. A 5.4TB drive is only going to have 4.8 or so usable file space.

Mmm...I don't wonna run that risk.
5.45TB is the actual usable space, it's a 6TB drive.Depending on what else may be on the drive, try a limit of 4.5 to account for any other files and to compensate for how Windows actually calculates space. A 5.4TB drive is only going to have 4.8 or so usable file space.
The space on the drive is:
- 280GB backup folder
- 1GB Alert
- 240MB db
- 4.88TB New
- 83GB Stored
New now is 4.88TB (4997GB) and now I see that it has deleted an old clip, so now it seems to be working, but this has happened other numerous time.
I'd reeeeeally like to solve this problem once and for all.
Re: Limit size not respected
'Stored' is basically a redundant folder and not used by lots of folks. Moving files from 'New' to 'Stored' just duplicates write cycles for the same file. I don't use it myself, hence no space allocation assigned to 'Stored' allowing more for 'New' or unallocated for future consideration.
I keep 'Alerts' at 1GB which is overkill for my situation and rarely has any contents..., usually only when I'm experimenting. The important 'alert' indexing stuff associated with clips and the timeline is generally stored in 'db' anyway, so 'Alerts' doesn't need to have any space allocation either unless required for particular storage configurations. I don't use it either.
The drive may simply get busy attempting functions of no use to the system and become corrupt or just confused during such activity if folders are designated storage space that is not used, but still needs to be acknowledged.
As you are probably aware, defragmentation of BI storage is generally a real bad idea for how BI likes to see things and should be avoided..., as should any automated process for updates or ongiong system monitoring maintanence services such as CCleaner, Advance System Care, A/V, etc. Windows updates speak for themselves and should be scheduled and monitored with BI stopped to account for resulting problems prior to restarting BI..., IMHO.
Anyway, my guess is there's a storage allocation issue/setting causing the problem. Get rid of any specific storage settings that don't apply. Double check your folders for contents and see what's what as well.
Worst case you can always copy your existing folders (and db) to a safe place and start fresh with a whole new database to see if that clears the problem. You could do that anyway as a test with the existing database just by setting a much lower storage limit for 'New' to see how things behave. You may simply be too close to the ceiling for things to currently play nice.
I'd shut down the 'Stored' folder and do a Database repair for starters -- which presumably is located at c:\BlueIris\db?
You could also check your Status log for details and possible clues. Checking the 'Save to File' box will create 30 day logs which can be much easier to sort through if there's a lot of activity, but will take some time to populate.
Good luck. Your frustration can be appreciated by most of us!
