I have my "main" pc which an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, on board graphics, 16GB ram. And my "old" pc which is an AMD FX-4130 3.9GHz, Geforce GT 710, 16GB ram.
The main computer does various tasks, nothing too crazy, no gaming. The old pc currently does nothing. My plan was to dedicate the old pc to running BI. The only potential issue I see is the video card. I could upgrade it to something like a GT 1030 according to this chart it can handle H.265
I have six 4MP cams.
Thoughts?
trying to decide what PC to run BI on
Re: trying to decide what PC to run BI on
My advice would be to try it and see what happens after you have done all of the cpu load reducing tweaks ! You can always move the BI5 licence to another pc.
My i5-3330 is presently coping with seven 1080 cameras at around 22% cpu loading. Doing a web search for "i5-3330 vs FX-4130" shows the Amd cpu to be less capable than the intel chip, but since it's free just try it. If it can't handle it then you could upgrade it a little. Searching for "FX-4130 vs FX-8350 shows the 8350 to be much faster, but even that is slower than the i5-3330. I'm not sure how well the gpu would work, as I don't use one on either BI5 server.

Agreed- nothing to lose by trying it, and it may be perfectly capable of handling multiple cameras (dependent on other factors, of course).
The old PC (AMD FX-4130 3.9GHz, Geforce GT 710, 16GB ram) sounds like it should be fine.
